Preliminary Holiday Traffic Count
According to a statewide preliminary report for the 2012 Thanksgiving Holiday travel period, there were fewer traffic fatalities and DUIIs in Oregon as compared to last year.  There were two fatalities, both occurring on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 22.  One occurred in Elgin and the other was in southeast Portland.  Three people died on the state's highways during 2011 and 2010.  Since 1970, approximately 240 people have died on Oregon's roads.  OSP troopers also reported 47 DUII arrests, including a dozen on Saturday, Nov. 24.  That compares with 72 the year before.  There were 47 DUII arrests in 2010 and 53 in 2009.
